A historic kingdom, Belgium embraces a strong sense of “living together” and unity among its people. The Dutch-speaking north (Flemish) and the French-speaking south (Walloons) have formal recognition and governmental autonomy as they seek to live together. However, these distinctions become tested as they are fueled by growing immigration challenges. Belgium is a highly secular society where even the pull of their Catholic roots and traditions seems irrelevant, and any mention or discussion of God seems offensive. Over 30% of Belgians identify themselves as drawn to “non-religious philosophical communities”.
Associate Cru staff, Bob and Ria Verlackt, are a retired Belgian couple with huge hearts for people, and a desire to introduce Belgians to the gospel through teaching on marriage relationships. Additionally God has opened the doors for them to regularly address a wide audience of radio listeners (up to 30,000 per week) with messages that present the uniqueness of knowing God personally. They have been doing this from their home in Antwerp for over 10 years and are now being joined by an American couple, Ralph and Elaine Elliott. Together the team is poised to expand the impact of Christ’s love on current and future leaders in Antwerp, Brussels and beyond.
