The Promise of Generosity
Recently, our Momentum Europe Board spent considerable time talking about our values, as a ministry.
I was encouraged as we were led to three “values” that we felt were at the heart of Momentum Europe.
When we pray, and think and plan about what God would want to do through Momentum Europe we realized that Generosity, Authenticity and Expectancy needed to be at the core of our vision.
Generosity, as we see in 2 Corinthians 9:10-14, leads to impact. Needs are met, praises are lifted to the Lord, lives are changes and others are attracted to Jesus. What begins as a spiritual ministry to a few can become a spiritual movement that touches many.
Generosity in the context of Momentum Europe means more than just raising and giving money toward fruitful efforts in Europe. It’s also about being generous in the investment of time toward others – particularly to those whom have the opportunity to minister to in Europe.
Reaching influential European leaders – which encapsulates our mission – requires focus, patience, wisdom, boldness and a generous investment in simply spending time with men and women who have perhaps never before met someone who truly follows Jesus.
There are many great examples of this taking place each day in Momentum Europe. For example…..
Recently one of our team members in Europe was approached by the daughter of a couple whom they had invested generously in – continuing to befriend them and share Christ with them in spite of their seeming lack of interest. Outwardly this couples family – in spite of, or perhaps because of, their great success by the worlds standards – had fallen apart with strained relationships and serious issues at every level. And yet, during a recent celebration the daughter of this couple approached our team members and simply thanked them for being the “rock” that held the family together.
You and I know what she only sensed and observed through our ME team, that it’s Christ’s love for each of those family members that is the rock they can build on. We believe that God is at work in that family – breaking down the hardness of their hearts, and our continuous generous investment in them will one day lead them to Jesus.
It’s that kind of generosity – continuing to invest relationally in those who don’t know Jesus – that bears fruit in the long run.
The world is in desperate need to experience Biblical generosity. The same can be said for our other two core values – authenticity and expectancy (hope). This is perhaps especially true in the European context where people who truly follow Jesus are few and far between. As we live out these values in our day-to-day relationships with influential leaders in Europe, there is no doubt that over time the ministry of Momentum Europe will become a spiritual movement blessed by God. It’s inevitable. It’s the promise of generosity. It’s what will lead thousands into His kingdom.
